Welcome to my blog and dance sketchbook pre-amble!
As of right now, I’m not considering these films performances. The goal is not entertainment. The goal is mainly to play, and make consistent work while exploring my relationship to nature, being out doors, and what that brings up for me through movement. I'd be so appreciative if you'd share the video, share this page, and if you feel so inclined, click here to leave a monetary note of appreciation so I can continue this work. If you have suggestions of where to film future videos (Denver area or not) or topics you'd like me to cover in these posts, click here to tell me about them or leave a comment on this post!

The parameters... same location, same time of day on the first of every month for at least a year.

I don't know that I feel overly interested in saying much about this piece. I will say the location is very dear to me and I was quite pleased that there was no cloud cover this chilly November morning. I suppose... I did get a few comments about the cozy choice of clothing and how that was surprising in the fieldwork session. Needless to say, I've been on the hunt for fun dance sweaters ever since. You can expect more sweaters in future videos.
I'll leave you with the dance video that makes me think of. Enjoy. PS. I love the cover of this song. Gets me in the gut every time.
Hello World,
I have a new series of videos to share with you along with some thoughts. Mostly unedited. I debated whether or not to show the actual first video of this new series first. The second video is “prettier” in my mind, which translates to “likely to get more compliments and hold interest so people have interest in watching the next video.” At any rate, you’re seeing the first first video. If you would like to just watch the video and not read my ramblings, or read them afterward you may do so here. Otherwise, keep reading below.
This video got made because I saw an old professor from school send out an email for fieldwork. Fieldwork is a process of showing your art (of any medium and at any stage of development) to peers with no preamble. Everyone watches, takes notes, and does not clap. After everyone has shown their work, everyone gets feedback of what stood out, how the piece made the viewer feel; essentially personal notes with absolutely no directorial feedback or suggestions, keeping the power of making in the artists hands. I absolutely love it, and have done it before. I’m debating offering it next year.
I have been avoiding video of my movement since the beginning of the pandemic for various reasons. The main one being that performing live is my joy and passion. Joining fieldwork with the intention of showing filmed work gave me a deadline. Filming this was awkward, but I figured out a few things that made it easier. - I filmed it in my backyard. Welcome. - I did it as the sun rose (though I ran into cloud cover this day, naturally). - I decided to limit myself to using the camera on my phone. - Most importantly, I managed to do it alone. It was VERY cold that morning, but I adore sunrises and the quiet contemplative nature of that time of day. I hadn’t quite decided on my relationship to the camera, so there’s a few moments of seeing it. I mostly ignore it in later videos and have decided that generally as of right now, I’m not considering these films performances. I’m not trying to entertain anyone. I’m working with my relationship to nature, being out doors and what that brings up for me through movement. Feel free to comment, share the video, share this page, and if you feel so inclined leave a monetary note of appreciation. If you have suggestions of where to film future videos (Denver area or not) or topics you'd like me to cover in these posts, I’d love to hear them. One last note, I've chosen to only upload these to Vimeo so you don't have to watch ads to see art. |
